I try to write a bit each day, though I admit that I have to spend a fair amount of time on plain old reading for research purposes. Our game playtesters demand a high degree of historical fealty, so even invented events have to be plausible.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-3770790691296961682011-08-04T10:05:00.000-07:002011-08-04T10:05:49.713-07:00Sudden Storm notesOne of the great things about Sudden Storm is the fact that big guns rule. Though I am a huge fan of naval aviation and love playing out the battles from The Solomons Campaign, I understand that many naval gamers do not want to play with aircraft, this historically based game, gives them the opportunity to see how the technology that would reach its highest form in WWII developed. It is an alternative history game, but uses only forces that were available in 1937. Even the Timeline we wrote uses historical events, though admittedly we moved them around a bit and embellished them in some cases. I am proud of the end result, a games that covers a Pacific war spanning from the China coast to the central Pacific. The ground combat module, though abstract, delivers accurate results, based upon the actual US and Japanese forces available at the time.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-46236420997472198622011-07-12T21:39:00.000-07:002011-07-12T21:40:07.600-07:00Sudden Storm has arrived and is for sale all 200+ pages of it.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-82999325464519713172011-07-01T16:37:00.000-07:002011-07-01T16:40:17.946-07:00SSC in galleyWe are now awaiting the printer, as the go-ahead has been given. J.D. Perry passed away a few days ago, and he will be sorely missed. He loved life and lit up our meetings with his infectious good humor.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-48157837739493670482010-12-09T21:25:00.000-08:002010-12-09T21:25:33.168-08:00I am awaiting the proof copy of the Sudden storm rules. Once that arrives and both authors have a chance to vet the galley, we will move forward with production. No guarantees about availability date, but first of the year looks promising right now. This game should raise the bar for naval campaigns yet again, as it involves both sea and land forces and combat in an easy to understand format, and one that can be finished in just a few gaming sessions, depending on how much combat is generated. We were able to finish nearly half the game, which is a minimum of eight turns long, in one evening of casual play. And our group is notoriously slow.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-69196328020865420872010-11-26T17:28:00.001-08:002010-12-09T19:35:11.327-08:00Battle of Santa Cruz recreated Good video!gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-81159332373407133162010-11-23T18:07:00.000-08:002010-11-23T18:08:23.947-08:00Sudden StormSudden Storm is now in galley and we hope to have a production date soon. I have posted the timeline for the hypothetical conflict on the front page of our web site, so folks can see just how likely a war could have been. All of the various events were either actual ones that we moved in time or slightly embellished. We did thorough research on the inter war period to bring the most fidelity and veracity possible to the projected conflict.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-12789797430673038602010-11-11T18:06:00.000-08:002010-11-11T18:06:06.636-08:00The Solomons CampaignOne of the reasons I developed and brought to publication The Solomons Campaign is because I personally like to play it. One of the reasons I am revisiting the game to clarify its rules is because I want it to be the best possible product on the market. Several years of play have uncovered some areas that could use a bit of nuancing and explanation. I am not worried too much about reviewing the game too closely, as the basic text and product is solid. I am going to have the pleasure of running it again in San Diego, within the next few weeks. if the game goes the way most games do. It will begin with a massive carrier battle that will eliminate both sides' carrier capability. I always caution players against doing this right off the bat but usually the USN and Kaigun immediately have a huge carrier war in the first months of the campaign.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-19039879847373713562010-11-05T16:20:00.000-07:002010-11-30T01:28:55.438-08:00Sudden Storm ad

gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-67486372104699194832010-11-04T12:37:00.000-07:002010-11-04T12:37:47.988-07:001937 Sudden Storm

gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1164562884680636333.post-14553624883028378872010-11-01T12:21:00.000-07:002010-11-01T12:21:08.620-07:00Though it has taken longer than anticipated due to my medical down time, we may have our latest project out by Christmas. We will have news soon, I hope. This will be a large scale campaign, combining sea, aerial , and land combat in one package. We are very excited about this new campaign, one which has dominated our playtesting for the past several months. It is very engrossing and has led to some very good and interesting battles.gregorykhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13881771519942229140noreply@blogger.com0
